A local martial arts club grabbed some hardware this weekend.

Although not as well known in the southwest, MMA enthusiasts have more than likely heard of Muay Thai. The sport, similar to kickboxing, is not only the national sport of Thailand but is one of the more popular styles being used in the MMA octagon.

Chad Dafoe teaches Muay Thai in Swift Current out of the Swift Current Fighting Club, and last Saturday saw two of his students take their matches in a pair of impressive knockouts.

Cade Klassen took his opponent down in a knockout in the second round, while Raygan Wiens managed an impressive first-round knockout within the first 20 seconds of the match.

Dafoe, who describes Muay Thai as kickboxing, but more violent, added that with all of the COVID-19 cases becoming prevalent once again, they'd be slowing down their competition events and spend the time getting ready for when events start to return.
