A local business owner has thrown his name in the conversation for city council.

Matt Nicholson is the Owner and Operator of Smitty's Restaurant and Lounge and the Canadian Tire Gas Bar in Swift Current.

Nicholson explains he feels he could bring fresh new ideas to the table.

"I just feel that it's time to bring some new ideas and a fresh perspective.

In business and life, you always think you're doing things the right way - sometimes you bring somebody else in that makes you say 'that's a great idea, maybe we should have done that before.'

Sometimes you can extract cost savings from that as well," he said.

He also says his community and business involvement would help serve the community he lives in well.

"I've been involved in girls' softball, minor football and I have been an assistant coach with the Colts for the last 11 years.

Being in the industry that I am, discussing things with people on a daily basis, I can provide an intimate knowledge of issues that affect citizens in the community," he said.

The candidates who have decided to run now have a 24-hour window to withdraw their names from the official ballot.

This year's election falls in late October, on the 26th.
