For 37 minutes the Swift Current Broncos appeared to be on the right track in Edmonton on Friday night.

They had contained the high powered Oil Kings to limited shots and chances with an effective defensive game and created some good pressure in the Edmonton zone. That is until two turnovers ended up in the back of their net and suddenly the first place Oil Kings had a 3-1 lead and skated to a 4-1 win.

"You do it to yourself," said Broncos Associate Coach Darren Evjen. "That's the worst part about it. It's not like created something. We turned the puck over twice and they get two goals off of it. It's deflating, but if you're got to recover from it."

The Broncos have now lost three of their last four games and sit six points back fo the WHL East Division leading Pats after Regina's 3-2 win over Victoria.

Swift Current opened the scoring on a nice play shorthanded where Colby Cave stole the puck and created a 2 on 1 with Coda Gordon. Gordon showed good patience and slid the puck back across to Cave who ripped it over Tristan Jarry's glove for his 28th on the season.

Edmonton responded a few minutes later during a battle of the fourth lines when a Swift Current turnover allowed Griffin Reinhart to set Lane Bauer up all one in the shot. He picked his spot for his 7th of the year.

It was a pretty even period after that with Swift Current outshooting Edmonton by a 10-9 margin.

Swift Current was distinctly the better team through much of the second period and had at one point moved the shots to 19-12 in their favour.

"If anything we could have done a better job of getting pucks to the net and getting around the net," Evjen said. "At times we could have had pucks to the net we would overplay or make an extra play. We wouldn't drive the net or take the show."

Edmonton turned it around on Curtis Lazar's re-direction between Eetu Laurikainen's legs with 2:55 to go in the period and then got another one 1:30 later when Riley Kieser beat Laurikainen from the top of the left circle. Ashton Sautner scored another one early in the third period to run Laurikainen from the game and Edmonton cruised the rest of the way.

Landon Bow stopped all 15 shots he faced after coming on in relief.

Jarry made 25 saves to earn the win for Edmonton.

Swift Current is in Red Deer on Saturday night. You can hear the game on the Eagle 94.1 FM with Pioneer Co-op Home Centre Broncos Hockey at 7:30pm.
