A recently designed project led by Dennis Whyte, formerly of Shaunavon, has made ground-breaking advances in fusion energy, altering the realm of carbon-free energy production.

Whyte is the Director of the Plasma Science and Fusion Center at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he collaborated with his students to create the strongest fusion magnet in the world.

The Town of Shaunavon wants to recognize the many accomplishments and advances made by Whyte, which will change the course of energy production and help combat global climate change.

Shaunavon Communications Officer, Anna Morin, explained saying, "We thought that it would be important to honour Dennis Whyte because he's actually a former resident of Shaunavon. I gave him a call, interviewed him and thought it was pretty impressive all of his achievements and accomplishments."

Whyte grew up in Shaunavon and graduated from The Shaunavon High School.
