The roller derby season in Swift Current began this past weekend with local clubs producing solid opening results in front of large crowds.

Saturday's first match on the curling rink side of the InnovationPlex saw the Ra Ra Riots Junior Roller Derby Team win a close bout against Saskatoon's Bridge City Bruisers 225-192.

Evening action concluded with the Redneck Betties Roller Derby Team skating past Regina's Pile O'Bones 226-172.

"The Southwest Sask Roller Derby Association wants to express their gratitude for the many people that came out to watch the home opener," a member of the Redneck Betties said.

The next game for the Ra Ra Riots is on May 4 in Regina, meanwhile, the Redneck Betties will be back at home on May 25.
