A recent Swift Current minor baseball graduate will be continuing his career in Alberta beginning next month.

Last week Swift Current 18U AAA 57's Kelsey Rokochy committed to attending Lethbridge College while playing for the Prairie Baseball Academy.

"I'm just really excited to move away from my hometown, start school, meet some new people, and play baseball," he said Monday afternoon. "It's going to be a great opportunity and I can't wait."

The opportunity was just recently created as the 18U AAA 57's season was winding down, Rokochy didn't want his baseball career to end so he reached out to the program.

"I sent the coaches there some video and my record over the years of what I've been able to do with teams here in Swift and also team Saskatchewan," he said. "They were interested and wanted to have me out."

The pitcher/shortstop/third baseman picked up the idea to join the Lethbridge academy from a former teammates brother in Devon Schultz.

"He got a lot of velocity while pitching and did a lot of good things," he said. "It's close to home, they're a good winning program, I know they have good coaching, it was kind of a no-doubter once they asked me."

He's enrolled in school for general studies arts and sciences with ambitions of becoming a sports massage therapist.

"Just because most of the courses I want to do are two-year courses, so I kind of want to extend my time playing baseball while going to school," he said.

This past season with the 18U AAA 57's he appeared in 30 games, recording 17 hits, seven RBIs, 23 runs scored while batting .227 with a .431 OBP.

He also logged 35 1/3 innings on the mound going 1-4 on the year with a 7.13 ERA and 31 strikeouts.
