The Moose Jaw Warriors are one win away from capturing their first ever Ed Chynoweth Cup. 

Brayden Schurmann scored 2:20 into overtime to give the Warriors a 4-3 win over the visiting Portland Winterhawks and a commanding 3-0 lead in the WHL championship series. Denton Mateychuk added two goals and Lucas Brenton also scored for the Warriors, who host game four tonight.

At the Centennial Cup, the SJHL champion Melfort Mustangs beat the Sioux Lookout Bombers 5-3 on Tuesday to stay unbeaten and clinch a playoff spot in the tournament. Melfort wraps up the round-robin against the host Oakville Blades tonight.

Bouchard's late goal helps Oilers even up series with Canucks

Evan Bouchard scored with 38 seconds left in regulation to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday at Rogers Place to even their second-round NHL playoff series at two games apiece. Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for the Oilers and Calvin Pickard made 19 saves for the victory. Game five is in Vancouver on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Charlie McAvoy's second period goal stood up as the winner as the Boston Bruins staved off elimination with a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers, who still lead the series 3-2 with game six in Boston on Friday.

The Dallas Stars have a chance to eliminate the Colorado Avalanche in tonight's only NHL playoff game.

Also, Canada narrowly avoided a massive upset at the World Men’s Hockey Championship, edging Austria 7-6 in overtime on Tuesday in Prague. John Tavares scored in OT for Canada, who led 6-1 after 40 minutes before the Austrians stormed back with five unanswered goals in the third. Canada faces Norway in their next game on Thursday.

Jays rained out in Baltimore

The Toronto Blue Jays had their game against the Baltimore Orioles postponed due to rain, and it will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on July 29 at Camden Yards.

Yusei Kikuchi is scheduled to start for the Jays in the series finale this afternoon.

In local minor ball on Tuesday, the 15U AAA 57’s fell 15-4 to the Moose Jaw Canucks.
