A committee in the southwest has signed the second edition of their safety protocol which looks to reduce violence in communities and schools.

The Southwest Regional Intersectoral Committee original signed the protocol in 2014.

With the two-year period between signings, the SRIC was able to review the protocol and make any changes they deemed necessary.

The committee also announced Great Plains College is a new partner for the 2016 signing.

Returning partners from the first signing include Chinook and Trinity School Divisions, Cypress Health, Ministry of Social Services, Ministry of Justice, as well as the RCMP.

Cortney Reynolds, Coordinator with the SRIC, explains the RCMP's involvement expands past the local area.

"At this time, they're working at a provincial level to look at how they can join these protocols as there is a lot of different things happening in the different school divisions throughout the province. So the RCMP works very closely with us as well in the process of promoting safety and reducing violence," she said.

The release from the signing ceremony can be seen in its entirety below.
