Once again the local community came together and helped those in need through Salvation Army's numerous Christmas campaigns.

An officer with the Salvation Army Renee Mailman, says the Christmas hamper campaign went well and all of the wishes on the wish tree were taken and filled and provides an update on a few more of their seasonal programs.

"Toy Days with Canadian Tire. So we were able to give every single child or teen who had applied for toys, extra gifts so they all received more than one gift. We had the teddy bear toss with the Bronco's so we were able to give every child a teddy bear."

In total, Mailman says there were over 350 wishes from children and teens on the wish tree this year and over 350 Christmas toy and food hampers, and within that 350 over 900 people were served.

With an increase in donations this time of year they also see an increase in need as Mailman explains.

"We do see an increase of donations around Christmas time which is always wonderful because we are still doing regular food bank appointments this week. Then we're closed next week but as of January 5th were starting up food bank appointments again. So we're always in need is what we say, so while we seem really well stocked right now, we have seen an increase in need."

Mailman adds that they always appreciate more in order to ensure they are meeting everyone's needs the best they can throughout the year.

According to Mailman, they have had a wonderful group of volunteers over the past couple of weeks packing hampers, delivery, and sorting. She says she is grateful for the community and their support and sends a big thank you out to everyone that donated time, money, and food as it is greatly appreciated and this couldn't be done without everyone else.
