Motorists heading north on Highway 4 this week will experience some traffic delays as SaskPower continues some infrastructure work in the area.

The work about 4 kilometres outside of Swift Current is related to a transmission line project that will connect the Chinook Power Plant to provincial power grid sometime next year.

Joel Cherry, a SaskPower spokesperson, said they completed the portion of work involving helicopters on Tuesday, but there is still more work to be done.

"Right now there are doing the stringing, where they're pulling the wires across the highway," he explained. "While that work is going there are going to have the speeds down to 60 km/h."

The work that's interfering with traffic on Highway 4 is expected to be wrapped up by Saturday at the latest.

"There are going to be disruptions further east as they continue to progress on the line," Cherry said. "So we're going to see traffic disruptions in December around Moose Jaw as well."

The line that will run from east of Swift Current to Moose Jaw will be about 200 kilometres in length and the project is pegged to cost around $250 million.
