In the month of June, 74 tickets were handed out to learner drivers.

According to SGI, 51 of those tickets were for learner drivers using the vehicle without a supervising driver present.

Marie Schultz, Communications Consultant at SGI, explains the importance of having a supervisor present.

"Supervising drivers are there to teach the new drivers how to drive safely, and just monitor them. They make sure they are following the rules properly and doing all driver actions correctly," she said.

Schultz also explains the need for learner drivers to utilize practice time.

"We want drivers to get as much practice as possible. We compare it to anything, like piano lessons and hockey. You won't get better if you don't practice lots, so get as much practice as you can. But make sure you follow your restrictions," she said.

Learner drivers who do adhere to all restrictions are able graduate to an experienced driver in just 18 months after passing a road test.
