The new-look, new location Maverick School held its official grand opening Monday afternoon.

Maverick School has been open since 1993 and was nameless when it first opened its doors.

Chinook School Division Director of Education Liam Choo-Foo was on-hand for the grand opening and shared his thought about the school.

"First-of-all it's just a monumental day in the history of the program and the school. (The) kids are so excited, we finally have a permanent home for them. It's fantastic and very gratifying," he said.

Jayne Nicholson has been the Principal of the school since 2004. She believes the new-look school benefits everyone involved with the school.

"I know for myself I find being in the new building totally invigorating. It's wonderful to come in here, it's so bright and light. To know as a school we are operating, I believe more efficiently now, just because the plan is geared to our programming," Nicholson said. "The best part is, of course, seeing the students on opening day when they came in. They hadn't seen things (inside the school), they were so excited and surprised, they're just loving the space."

The school is holding a community open house on October 6th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
