While development of further lots in Swift Current's Highland subdivision is slated to come to an end later this year, the city has just recently released an additional 30 lots for development this week.

The lots, ranging in price from $34,000 to $58,000, are now available with further information available on the properties at City Hall.

"We expect that there will be some demand for the lots," says Tim Marcus, Director of Finance and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Swift Current. "The Highland area was down to about 10 lots, and with the addition of these, we'll be back up to around 40 lots, which is usually a sufficient inventory for the city."

Marcus adds later this year, the city expects to complete the last of what they call the "High-end lots": "There are six lots on Kelburne Bay that will be available, and that will complete the Highland subdivision as we know it."

Meanwhile, construction was up in big fashion in 2011 across Saskatchewan. The latest figures released by Stats Canada showed a record year for building permits in the province with $2.6 billion in permits issued last year, well above the previous record of $2.2 billion that was set in 2008.

Saskatchewan also led the nation in building permit growth, up 25% over the previous year, significantly higher than Alberta that came in second at 11.3%.

In Swift Current, 2011 was the second highest year for building permits in the city's history.
