It was announced last week that the Saskatchewan government will distribute $63 million through the Strategic Investment Fund to update the provinces post-secondary institutions.

The announcement was made by Advanced Education Minister Scott Moe along with Ralph Goodall, Minister of Public Safety on behalf of Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.

Projects will provide facility upgrades through renovations and updates to physical buildings at the institutions.

$32 million dollars will be going to the University of Saskatchewan. $30.1 million will be used for the construction of the university's new Collaborative Science Research Building, $1.09 million will be used towards renewing research space and improving energy efficiency at St. Thomas More College and $815,000 will be used to build new infrastructure at the St. Peter's College campus.

The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research will receive $880,000 which will be used for an expansion that will provide additional space for skills training and adult basic education to the community of La Loche.

Carlton Trail College has also been awarded $117,500 which will be directed towards renovations to its Punnichy facility in order to better meet the needs of students in the area.

The updates taking place will develop a more efficient means of operating within the facilities which will lead to the creation of better learning environments for students.
