The under utilized bus route from Eastend to Swift Current and Mossbank will be officially cancelled following word from the Highway Traffic Board yesterday.

The announcement came at the end of a 90 day review process, after word of the cancellation sparked controversy with those who still used the route.

STC's response to the cancellation? It just wasn't generating the revenue it needed to be to stay alive.

Full Interview with Candice Phelps"We operate with a government subsidy, and we're always being conscious of the costs that we incur," said Candice Phelps, Executive Director of Strategic Planning with STC, "and we had to look for some operational efficiencies, and these are three of the routes with the lowest utilization, so we had to make some tough decisions."

The other cancelled routes were from Blaine Lake to North Battleford, as well as from Regina to Lanigan, each of these routes averaged two or less passengers per trip.

The cancellation of the Eastend to Swift Current/Mossbank bus, which ran on Tuesday's and Thursday's will take effect January 1st, 2014.
