You may be shocked to find out how many youths in our community don't have a place to call home.

Many people as young as 15 years old in Swift Current end up couch surfing or in dangerous conditions as a way to live.

"It's actually kind of shocking how many there are," said Shawn Wiskar, a student at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School, and a member of the Student Leadership Council, "a lot of them you don't see because they're couch surfing or living in dangerous situations, so they're not living on the street, but they are virtually homeless."

Wiskar and the SLC at the Comp have made a combined effort to really make a difference, and raise awareness for the astonishing amount of youth and adults that are homeless in our community.

"Five Days for Change is a fundraiser where ten of us students will be living homeless outside of the Comp for five days to raise money and awareness about local homeless youth, and all the proceeds will go towards building local youth housing which they hope will be going up within the next two years."

He added the students will be collecting cash donations from where they're stationed outside the Comp from May 21-24th.

For more information on Five Days For Change, you can 'like' them on Facebook, or join them on May 20th at Market Square to kick off the campaign, and learn more about the cause.

On May 24th, the group also invites everyone to come to the Comp to wrap up the week with a BBQ and concert on the front lawn from 2:00-7:00pm.
