19th annual SCBEX awards honor Swift Current businesses

On Friday the nineteenth-annual Spirit of Swift Current Business Excellence Awards [SCBEX] were held at the Living Sky Casino.

Chamber CEO Karla Wiens, who was presenting the awards as the Chamber CEO for the first time, said that it was exhilarating for her to be presenting the awards.

"I was exhilarated and it's so exciting for me to present these awards to so many deserving people," Wiens said. "I can't describe how nice the evening was how much everyone was so appreciative and supportive of each other, it was just a fantastic evening all around."

There were a total of 10 awards handed out in 9 different categories, featuring a new category, Citizen of the Year. 

Wiens talked about how they selected the winners.

"The three finalists in each category, with the selection of hall of fame inductees, and the member of the business award that went to the board and we had a secret ballot at our last board meeting and selected the winners," she said. "Until tonight the only people who knew who the winners were, was Mike Rogowski and me, so it was a surprise for everyone tonight."

Weins added that it was a packed house, and they had a lot of visiting and networking with our business community and that's what the chamber hopes for with all of their events.
