The Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition's 9th Annual Ranchman's Ridin' and Recitin' happens this weekend at Kinetic Exhibition Park.

Billed as an opportunity to witness and be a part of Swift Current's western heritage through ranching events, livestock, equine, ranch rodeo, music, food and entertainment, participants and visitors attend from all over southwestern Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Grant Scheirlinck, Ranchman's Chair, says, “I am really excited for this year. We've added a bunch of stuff. It kicks off Friday September 25th at 10 o'clock in the morning. We're having a Cow Horse Clinic.”

New this year is Bull Pit Alley and the Ranch Rodeo which goes Sunday afternoon starting at one thirty.

Also beginning Friday at eight a.m. Is the Young Ranchman's All Breed Show, where over 140 young ranchers and little ranchers will take part in a number of areas throughout the weekend.

Scheirlinck says, “They put their heart and soul into this. They do public speaking, like, it's not just a cattle show. They do photography, public speaking, they do team grooming and team show judging.”

The Young Ranchman's All Breed Show goes both Saturday and Sunday as well with a banquet Saturday night in the Palliser Building.

Saturday's events include Heavy Horse Events starting at ten a.m., Ranch Horse at eleven, the Cattle Pen Show at noon and the Stock Dog Trails at two.

Entertainers include Bryce Burnett, award winning cowboy poet, and Ed Peekeekoot, multi-instrumentalist/story teller.

Local exhibitors include a rope maker, a saddle maker, western-style home decor, artwork, tack and more. And Doc's Town volunteers will be serving their famous pie and ice cream, along with chili, beef buns, and hot dogs at the Burnham Booth.
