Shaunavon hosted an inspiring initiative over the summer to celebrate the good deeds and positive behaviour of local youth.

The Town collaborated with Shaunavon RCMP officers, local businesses, and its Regional Bylaw Officer Bonnie Lingenfelter for the unique program, Project Positivity.

More than 70 Positive Tickets were distributed from June through the end of September for things like wearing a helmet when riding a bike, or using a crosswalk when crossing the street. They could then be redeemed at the local business on the back of the ticket for a prize.

By connecting local law enforcement officers with the youth, the program successfully fostered healthy, trust-filled relationships between the two.

"It does build a positive relationship," Lingenfelter said. "It just shows that there is good in everyone and we can work together and achieve positive outcomes."

One of the highlights of the initiative was the grand prize giveaway, drawn by the bylaw officer. Lingenfelter pulled two winners, Kaleb and Blake, whose parents were contacted to retrieve their prizes.

Local businesses played a pivotal role in making this initiative a success by contributing prizes all summer, showcasing strong community partnerships and promoting positive behaviour among the younger generations.
