Ag & Ex President Tracey Stevenson (second from right) receives an award from the International Association of Fairs and Expositions

The Swift Current Ag and Ex received international recognition for two of their programs this year.

The association won the Agricultural Award of Excellence from the International Association of Fairs and Expositions for their "Discover the Farm: a Farm Facts Experience" event, and the Hatching School Program.

"They have a number of contests that are open to fairs and exhibitions across the planet, and you have an opportunity to enter some of the programs you have going on in your local association," said Lenora Bells, Event Co-ordinator for the Ag & Ex. "One of the International Fairs and Expositions executives had come out to a SAASE Convention in March, and she saw what we had going on. She suggested that we enter that into the contest and she thought it would be a winner, and she was right. It includes so much of the public, and shares so much about agriculture and where our food comes from, and gives school students an awareness of what's happening in the farming and ranching community."

The Ag & Ex also won the Award of Distinctions for Communications from that same organization, and were presented the awards at a convention in Las Vegas this month.

Bells says it's an honour not only for the Ag and Ex, but for the volunteers who helped with the events and programs they host throughout the year.

"Our board is very involved in what's going on with their specific events, and they encourage the public to take part in these," she added. "Our volunteers, we can't do it without them, and we appreciate the number of hours they put in to help us develop and put on these events."

The Ag & Ex hosts a number of events through the year, including the Step Into Spring Home and Leisure Trade Show, and Frontier Days, which will be tied into Swift Current's centennial homecoming in 2014.
