The prediction was "mild and dry."  The reality was snowy and cold.

"The good news is that there will be lots of moisture there for the farmers," said Jack Burnett of the Old Farmers Almanac, who admits that their prediction was off.

He does ask us to "hang in there" as the snow won't last forever. Looking ahead to the spring season, he predicts that it's going to be cooler and drier than average, but only slightly.

"We're not talking about 10 degrees, we're talking about a fraction of a degree," Burnett added. "We're not looking at drier by a lot, just by five millimetres or something like that."

He expects a good season for planting, gardening and great soil moisture to get the crops in.

Summer, Burnett adds, should be slightly cooler with more moisture than usual, but nothing really out of the ordinary. While the outlook isn't the greatest, he says it's not all that bad either.

"It will be a nice spring. It will be a nice summer. It's all good. It will all happen," he added.

Meanwhile, we finally could see some sign of spring this week, with a good stretch of highs above zero heading into the Easter weekend. For more forecast details, click the local weather link.
