After months of working on the plan even before coming into office, the Liberal government announced  details of the Syrian refugee resettlement program this afternoon.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a campaign promise to bring in 25 thousand Syrian refugees by December 31st.

While Syrians have been steadily arriving in Canada for months, the Government now says it will settle 10 thousand by the end of this year, with the following 15 thousand by the end of February. David Anderson, MP for Cypress Hills-Grasslands says the government appears to be scrambling and says the Liberals should take their time to get it right.

"I know they're talking about putting them on army bases, they're talking about just bringing women and children.. obviously they're trying to sort out people and we'd like to see them take a bit of time, do the security checks properly. We can handle the numbers talked about and Canadians will welcome them, but they want to be assured they're doing a good job in bringing people here."

Resettlement and integration supports will cost an estimated $678 million over six years.
