Despite a stormy and wet weekend, a big crowd still packed the green out at the Saskatchewan Landing for a golf tournament fundraiser on Saturday.

Making its comeback for the first time since the pandemic, the Chinook Alternative Middle Plus Support (CAMPS) annual fundraiser was eagerly welcomed by the community.

Student Services Counselor for the alternative learning program, Lindsay Painchaud, said the turnout was great.

"Over 100 people attended [to golf] and then we had our volunteers that we’re super grateful sat out there throughout the whole day as well," she said. "We were very lucky. We saw the storm on the other side of the river, we got a little rain, but mostly it was beautiful.”

W.W. Smith sponsored a $5,000 hole-in-one and Lucky Charlie’s sponsored a $10,000 of the same.

Mercator Financial brought a chipping contest to the table with a $500 cash prize, and a putting competition by Service Master resulted in one lucky contestant walking away with a firepit.

CAMPS is an alternative learning program that works with students that have social, emotional, and/or behavioral struggles in the traditional school system. Painchaud said the goal is always to help them re-enter the traditional school system.

While the total from Saturday’s events is still being tallied, the funds help CAMPS to continue programming, such as nutrition and field trip experiences that go above and beyond for the students.

"We wouldn't be able to do it without all the community support,” Painchaud added. "The corporate sponsors, the hole sponsors and the prize donors—thank you to all those people that really supported us after a long hiatus. We haven't had this since 2019, so we were happy to be back at it. The environment was just so fun, and everybody was so happy to be back out there. Lots of regulars and some new people that had never golfed this tournament before, and the Sask Landing was just amazing.”
