Five different players scored for the Swift Current Broncos in a 5-2 win over the Kootenay Ice on Saturday.

The secondary scoring was a noticeable change for a team that had been relying on their top guns to carry them offensively most of the season.

"Everybody wants to score in hockey," said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. "It's nice to see a night like tonight where you get it from different lines. That's important. You can't be a one pony show. That makes you easy to defend."

Scott Feser had a goal and an assist to lead the way in a big third period for the Broncos. They also had goals from Tyler Adams, Jon Martin, Kade Jensen and Cavin Leth.

Kootenay jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Matt Alfaro's 7th of the season on 34 seconds into the game for the Teddy Bear Toss goal. It was the fourth Teddy Bear Toss game the Broncos have been a part of as a schedule quirk this season.

Swift Current responded right away as Adams knocked home a Calvin Spencer rebound for his third goal in four games. He also has a four game point streak going.

"We preach that," Smith said. "A puck to the net and people to the net. Spencer knows he's not going to score from there he shoots it off a pad, Chaulk drives the net and takes out their D and Tyler is the third guy high in the slot for a bang-bang play. We preach that."

Kootenay again bit the Broncos early in the second period as Cale Fleury's point shot snuck by Travis Child for a 2-1 Ice lead. Again the Broncos responded with their first power play goal in nine games as Martin ripped his league leading 25th of the year by Wyatt Hoflin.

It was his first goal against his old team in what would likely be his last game in Cranbrook.

Swift Current pulled ahead in the third period. After the Ice killed off a 5 on 3 power play, the Broncos were able to convert the remaining 5 on 4 when Colby Sissons set Jensen up for his one-timer. Jensen has now scored goals in back-to-back games as the Broncos finisehd 2 for 4 on the man advantage.

"Tonight we were able to establish some possession," Smith said. "Pucks and people to the net we've been preaching that."

Their win combined with Edmonton's loss have the Broncos within five points of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot with a game in hand.

Next up for Swift Current is a home date with the defending WHL champion Kelowna Rockets on Tuesday. They then host Brandon on Friday and Kamloops on Saturday.
