A pile of upgrades are currently underway at the pair of provincial parks located in southwestern Saskatchewan.

Work on a new campground in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park has recently begun that will come in at around $3.5 million and is expected to be open in time for next year's main camping season.

"It's going to provide over 60 new serviced campsites, a new campground service centre, all the site services, and an access road," Bryon Davis, the executive director of parks infrastructure and capital planning for the Saskatchewan government, said.

A new playground structure for the War Lodge campground is part of that construction alongside work on trails and other facilities in the park.

Swimming pool building upgrades were also just completed at the park with a cost ranging from $600,000-to-700,000.

"That pool building has been completely renovated," he said. "New fixtures, facilities, a family change room added, and a whirlpool upgrade."

Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park is undergoing a new campground service centre replacement at the Bear Paw campground.

"The Bear Paw campground service centre is under construction now," he said. "We've moved in temporary shower facilities and washrooms for campers for the summer season."

The second project happening at Saskatchewan Landing currently is a new visitor reception centre and park office.

Both the projects at Saskatchewan Landing combine to come in at just under $2 million.
