While they were back with the Broncos over the weekend, Adam Lowry and Graham Black were both still riding high off their experience playing for Team WHL last week in the Subway Super Series against the Russians.

Black was originally scheduled to play in one of the WHL's two games, but injuries allowed him to suit up for the games in both Vancouver and Victoria.

Graham Black comments on the Super Series experience while in Red Deer for Saturday's game against the Rebels

"It was just a great experience for myself," Black said. "I learned so many things. It's nice to have a different coach telling you from a different perspective what you're doing and how you're going to improve, and I'm sure it was for everyone else there, too."

Black added that overall, it was a really big learning experience.

"I just learned a couple of new systems. I learned that it's always about the team and you always have to play your hardest if you want to win," he added. "It's always all about winning, and I kind of learned how to have a winning attitude after playing with all those guys that have done that so many times in the past."

Lowry, meanwhile, also played in both games, scoring a power play goal and serving as team WHL captain in the final game of the series, and was pleased he got to play a bigger role this year.

Adam Lowry talked about how the Super Series for himself on Saturday

"Just being able to be out there on the powerplay with some highly-skilled players and some of the most skilled defencemen in our league, it was definitely a good opportunity for me," he said. "I was fortunate enough to get a pretty nice pass from Colin Smith in the second game and was able to score a goal, which was nice for me and I was pretty excited about that."

Lowry hopes he left a positive impression with Hockey Canada as they continue to evaluate who should get invites for the World Junior Championship camp, adding he can't help but be aware that what he does is being watched closely by Canadian scouts.

"You know, in the back of your mind, that they are watching and they are judging these games, and along with every game you play, you definitely want to leave a good impression on them and try and do something so that you can get noticed, and kind of force your way onto the hockey radar and get an invite to the World Junior Camp," he added.
