An early morning fire in Stewart Valley has devastated the village's school.
The village of Stewart Valley posted on Facebook this morning at 7:22 a.m. confirming the blaze at the Stewart Valley School and Community Centre.
Firefighters from the village, the RM of Saskatchewan Landing, and the Swift Current Fire Department are all at the scene battling the flames.
Gen Howe, the director of the Stewart Valley Early Learning Centre, said she was notified of the fire at 7:10 a.m. this morning as the daycare is located mere metres from the school.
"The outside of the school is still standing but I'm fairly certain the inside is gone," she said this morning while standing just outside the school. "At this moment it's just a matter of containing it."
At the time of the interview (10 a.m.), Howe said the daycare was unscathed, however, this morning she had to evacuate.
"I had a staff member in the daycare and she was told to leave the building but I had to come back and tell all the parents that we would be closed for the day," she said.
The RM of Saskatchewan Landing and the village are asking anyone with water tanks to bring them to aid firefighting efforts.
"Every farmer and their water truck is here helping out," the Stewart Valley resident said.
"It's very devastating for everyone but you definitely know how much a community means to you when everyone comes together like this."
The village is asking residents to restrict water usage and avoid the area to allow fire crews to battle the fire.
