As many attend ceremonies that honour the sacrifices of past and present soldiers, veterans will join them as well.

One veteran, Bob Parks who currently resides in Mankota, spent 14 and a half years in the military.

During that time, he spent time in 23 different countries and said he remembers how hard it is on not just the veterans, but everybody on Remembrance Day.

"I remember my dad, he was in the second world war, I remember a lot of my friends, especially the families left behind when we are on long deployments. It's hard on everybody. I remember friends of mine coming back that have trouble after being in a conflict, and it's hard on friends and family."

He said that is always important to remember the past.

"For veterans looking back you remember the good times, Remembrance Day brings out a lot of bad times, but in the end, we all support each other," he said. "We all have family, friends, that have gone off to conflicts or served time in the military, there is a lot of time away from families, it affects families and the members themselves. Everybody has to cope with it, and it's a hard life."

"You don't know if you're going to come back the next day or not. Remembrance Day is putting all those feelings together and supporting the people that are still in the military, those who are out, the ones that have problems coming back from the military, and looking to the future."
