Update May 6, 2020, 6:24:

Sergeant Jason Waldner with the RCMP has confirmed that the fire has been put out and Highway 4 has been reopened. Sgt. Waldner stated there were no injuries, however, the farmyard did sustain damage to some outbuildings and structures.

At this point, Sgt. Waldner said the cause of the fire was due to a burning barrel which spread as the wind picked up. Both the Rosetown Fire Department and Elrose Fire Department fought the fire, with the assistance of neighbouring farmers and the local R.M.

Original Post:

A farmyard grass fire that ignited this afternoon has resulted in the RCMP closing Highway 4 approximately 10 kilometres south of Rosetown.

Saskatchewan Highway Hotline has reported that the fire has jumped the highway which prompted the closure. The Rosetown Fire Department and RCMP are on scene.

Fire trucks were heard leaving Rosetown this afternoon around 4 pm, with the Highway being closed less than an hour and a half later. Winds in the area are currently gusting upwards of 50 km/hr, which is adding challenges to fighting to the blaze.
