The Swift Currnet Broncos are facing a weekend that could be a significant turning point in their season.

The Broncos are 8 points behind the Edmonton Oil Kings for the final WHL Eastern Conference playoff spot with a game in hand and 16 games left to play.

This weekend both Swift Current and Edmonton play 3 games in 3 days which could potentially lead to big swing in the standings.

Swift Current is almost to the point of facing a must-win scenario as they host Saskatoon tonight and Kootenay on Saturday. They're then off to Moose Jaw on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos only have four games left against teams bellow them in the standings. This weekend includes two of them they need to take advantage of to close the gap on the Oil Kings.

Edmonton has a tall task ahead of them visiting Brandon, Moose Jaw and Regina in a three-day span. The Oil Kings are an excellent home team, but they're well bellow .500 on the road and facing three teams ahead of them in the standings.

A perfect weekend of three Broncos wins and Edmonton losses would suddenly cut the gap between the two teams to two points. Any progress at all in the standings opens the door much wider for Swift Current with a game in hand and some hope to build on.

It starts at home tonight against a Blades team that knocked the Broncos off 4-3 on Wednesday. Saskatoon had won four out of seven games against Swift Current this season and could reignite their own playoff aspirations with another win tonight.

The Broncos have also had some trouble with Kootenay this season with two losses in three games against the last place Ice.

Swift Current has been a very different team since the trade deadline and they have points in 10 of their last 13 games.

You can hear all three Broncos games this weekend on The Eagle 94.1 FM. Puck drop is 7pm tonight at the Credit Union iPlex.
