The Swift Current Broncos have teamed up with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) in an effort to increase a low COVID-19 vaccination rate in southwestern Saskatchewan and improve public health and safety.

They held a duo of vaccination clinics at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex last week, one during the WHL club's Blue and White intrasquad game on September 15 and one during their pre-season home opener against the Moose Jaw Warriors on September 17.

Swift Current Broncos Executive Vice President of Business Operations Nathan MacDonald said hosting the clinics has been an exciting part of their pre-season.

"We're wanting to get everyone in the area vaccinated," he said. "Not just to attend Broncos games but just to keep everyone safe and sound and healthy and keep our community safe. We're trying to do our part in trying to help the region and its fight against COVID."

According to the SHA, they've administered a total of 112 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine during the two clinics, with 70 individuals receiving the first dose.

"It's the least we can do, we want to support the SHA in their work," he said. "They're working their butts off trying to get this done and we're just trying to support them."

Another clinic will be set up for Friday night (with the Medicine Hat Tigers visiting) and anyone that gets a shot will receive free admission into the game and those that have tickets will receive an autographed puck.

The Broncos open their regular season next week at home but only those fully vaccinated will be able to attend.
