Saskatchewan NDP Leader Cam Broten

People in Saskatchewan are getting a glimpse into the future, or at least a glimpse into what our political leaders have planned for the future.

The Fall Sitting of the Saskatchewan Legislature began Wednesday in Regina with the Speech from the Throne, and Saskatchewan NDP leader Cam Broten was disappointed, saying there was too much re-hashing of old promises.

"I wanted to see some clear action on addressing the seniors care crisis, so that we don't hear the horrible stories of people missing baths, or call buttons going off unanswered," said Broten.

"I wanted to see better resources put into the classroom, to improve the one-on-one education for our kids and I wanted to see a better approach to diversifying the economy, making use of the natural resources we've been blessed with."

Broten feels optimistic about the future of natural resources in Saskatchewan, but he feels the government must diversify more, instead of 'putting all of its eggs in one basket'.

He said they will continue to press the government to improve the care for seniors, especially those who live in long-term care facilities. He also indicated that he wanted to see some new anti-bullying measures put in place, sooner rather than later.
