With a big week on the horizon for the Swift Current Trap Club, the city of Swift Current has proclaimed this week 'Saskatchewan Provincial Trapshooting Week'.

The week will run from July 4 until July 11 and it coincides with Swift Current hosting the Saskatchewan Amateur Trapshooting Association's (SATA) 100th annual provincial championship beginning tomorrow and running through Sunday.

"Trapshooting isn't a big headliner on any sports page, yet North American-wide our numbers are in the tens of thousands," Larry Kruse, a director with the SATA, said. "The SATA or the Saskatchewan Amateur Trapshooting Association would like to become more visible to the Saskatchewan public in general."

The five-day event, which was hosted in Swift Current back in 2018, is expected to draw around 55-60 participants.

"Not everybody that comes there to shoot competitively brings a camper," Randy Hunt, the president for the Swift Current Trap Club, said. "The economic spin-off for the city is huge. A lot of people coming, stay in hotels, they'll support all of the restaurants, they'll support the casino... They don't travel alone, they bring their wives they bring their families and it's great for the city to be right next to us so people can go and spent time when they're not at the club."

Anyone interested in attending the event is welcome to as it's open to the public with preliminary shooting running on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

While the championship shooting fires up Saturday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. and runs again on Sunday.
