Friday was the final chance for someone to submit their nomination in the race to become the leader of the Saskatchewan Party and the next Premier.

Rob Clarke, who is a retired RCMP officer and a former MP, was the last candidate to join the race after his entry earlier this month.

Clarke said that he wanted to enter earlier, but he had to pay the bills before paying the $25,000 fee to enter the race.

"I wish I could have gotten in earlier, but I had to pay the mortgage, pay the power bill, and the gas bill," he said. "I don't have the luxury of the other candidates where they are getting paid by the taxpayers to run for their self-interest."

Clarke added that he is excited about his campaign and that he's enjoying it so far.

"I'm having the most fun I've ever had on a campaign," he said. "It's nice to be able to campaign all throughout Saskatchewan and to hear the different issues coming forward."

Clarke wasn't able to participate in the North Battleford debate, as his registration was still being finalized, but he will have his first chance to debate November 30 alongside the other five candidates in Weyburn.

Clarke noted that he is looking forward to the debate on Thursday and says he has a lot of issues he wants to bring up and wants to offer people a reset and a different option for who to choose for leadership.
