Maple Leaf Consumer Foods has recalled two meat products, which may be contaminated with a bacteria that can cause a serious foodborne illness.

The affected products are one kilogram Sure Slice roast beef (product code 21333) with best before date-stamp AU 09, and one kilogram Sure Slice corned beef (product code 21444), dated AU 23.

The affected products were distributed nationally, mostly to hospitals, restaurants and nursing homes, but may also be found at deli counters.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning those products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause fever and nausea in most people, but may also cause premature delivery or stillbirth in pregnant women. There have been no confirmed illnesses as a result of eating the affected products.

More information on the recall can be found on the CFIA's website, at inspection.gc.ca.
