Swift Current’s brightest homes were rewarded for their hard work with more than cheery gazes, as the Deck the House holiday lights contest took place last week.

The contest is a joint effort between the city of Swift Current and the local Canadian Tire and has been going on for several years. This year, nine new entries joined the competition, bringing the total of decorated homes to 29.

The judges for the contest were Tyler Lemieux, General Manager of Canadian Tire in Swift Current, Adrian Wardell, the owner of the business, and Mayor Al Bridal. Their festive tour took place on Tuesday when the judge voted in four categories.

Canadian Tire GM Tyler Lemieux described his experience as a judge.

“We drove around and saw all the places, it was nice; There were a few more entries this year than last year, which is always good,” stated Lemieux. “Obviously we supply the decorations and whatnot that people use, but on top of that, it's really nice to see the community come together and enjoy the holiday spirit.”

Winners were rewarded with a $100 gift cards to Canadian Tire, along with utility bill credit from the City, ranging from $100 to $300.

For those interested in seeing these displays, a ‘Twinkle Tour’ map is available on the city of Swift Current’s website.
