The Swift Current Art Gallery held its first annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser on Friday, passing out beautiful creations containing a hearty delicacy.

The fundraiser was for Swift Current’s arts programming and will be visible through the classes and activities which the gallery will provide.

Terri Fidelak, the director of the Art Gallery of Swift Current, was handing out the beautiful bowls.

“We worked with local Potters to produce about 200 handmade ceramic bowls,” said Fidelak. “We partnered with Nightjar Diner for some chili and Made. Cafe for biscuits. People could buy their ticket for $25, come down, pick their bowl, have it filled with chili, get some nice toppings, a biscuit and a drink and enjoy their lunch.”

A portion of the proceeds are also going to support the Swift Current Community Fridge. All leftover food went straight into the fridge and pantry, giving those less fortunate the chance to eat well without judgment.

“We had three lead artists: Jay Kimball, Keely Williams and Kayla Curry, who were instrumental in the workshops and in producing a lot of bowls,” explained Fidelak. “We also had some Maker-Bees where folks from the community could come in and help us make some things, which was wonderful and generous. We also had some local artists who just donated some pots from their studios.”

The Maker-Bees are community members who participated in a workshop and contributed their artistic creations in the form of bowls to the fundraiser.
