It's a balanced budget for the Chinook School Division.

At their regular meeting yesterday, the Board presented its budget, with operating costs expected to be $78.6 million.

Director of Education Liam Choo-Foo says they knew awhile ago that the level of funding from the provincial government in their budget this year was not going to be enough to continue to operate in their current manner:

Choo-Foo adds that they had to make personel cuts, but wanted to do them in a manner that wouldn't affect student educations:

He says this budget will mean very little change in taxes for rate-payers in the Division:

Among some of the cuts made to achieve the balanced budget include $156,000 from administration expenditures, and $350,000 from department budgets.
