Earlier this week the Chinook School board met for their board meeting and amongst the agenda items discussed was a duo of mechanical replacements.

Chief Financial Officer for Chinook Sharie Sloman details the replacement of a boiler at the Swift Current High School.

"Currently we have one of six boilers down due to a leaky heat exchange, plus we have had some repairs in the last few years. So we just thought that we needed to update the mechanical system. That building is getting to be an old building and just to make sure that everything is operating properly and so that we don't have any shut downs or anything like that, we needed to look at replacing the boiler system there."

Sloman adds that the boiler replacement will cost $1,165,000 and will be done in the summer.

In addition, Sloman provides details on the replacement of a condensing unit at the board office.

"Last summer our air conditioning on the top floor went out during the warmest part of the year and so that was something we knew we would have to replace. We went through and it was getting closer to the end of fall so we decided that we needed to get that done before the summer hit."

Sloman says they have sent out a tendur which they have just accepted with the replacement cost being $126,320 plus tax. Again the work will likely be done early summer which is a slower time around the building.

According to Sloman they are trying to make sure the mechanical systems are operating up to the best standard in all buildings.
