The Chinook School board met this week for their monthly meeting and discussed the year and in particular, its work with social media.

Although its websites and social meeting are being used more, Joanne Booth, Coordinator of Communications for Chinook says aspects of it are being underutilized such as its use as a communication tool.

"I think there is a number of different reasons and the majority of schools are using our websites but there is just a bit of underutilization in some of the tools that we have on our websites and there is often a good reason for that. In some of the rural school's there may not be great connection for a lot of the folks they are communicating with as in their parents."

According to Booth, other factors could include staff turnover and change of duties. Booth says the sites and social media are easy to use and she hopes that by providing tips and tricks to engage people they will begin to depend on the sites for information.

In terms of the biggest challenge resulting from social media Booth says there really isn't one except for time in terms of the time it takes to monitor and respond.

Booth says overall their websites and social media are being used more frequently.
