Frontier School Christmas Dinner

Volunteer Appreciation Week is coming to a close, but not before the Chinook School Division gets in the last word.

The Division extends their thanks to community members, parents, and students who volunteer their time in support of fundraising events, team coaching, or whatever it is that needs to be done.

Superintendent for the Chinook School Division, JP Claire, says it's an important week for the Division to be able to acknowledge the efforts of volunteers that really are the foundation of what they do.

"We recognize the importance of their efforts in helping us focus on teaching and learning and supporting our students in being the best that they can be, not only in academics but in extra curricular and citizenship types of activities. We recognize that schools aren't isolated entities in our communities, and when we develop partnerships and when we tap into the strengths that our communities, our parents, and our community members have, it make the school experience much richer for students. As well as we find that volunteers feel that they are more of a member of the community. They feel that they get some intrinsic value of the work that they do, they develop relationships, and they look forward to helping build the leaders of tomorrow."

Claire says the Division has a healthy number of volunteers that are always willing to lend a helping hand, adding that community coaches, parents, seniors, and partnerships with the Swift Current Broncos and other agencies support positive activities within the schools.

"As a school division, we really believe that the more that parents and community members are involved in schools as volunteers, the better our students perform," he said. "Not only do they perform better academically, but they become better community citizens and give back to the broad society overall."
