Poor weather can hit anytime, and the Chinook School Division is prepared for any such instances.

Director of Education, Liam Choo-Foo says while the Division tends to keep schools open during inclement weather, there are factors that can play into cancelling bus routes for the day.

Those factors include icy roads and excessively cold weather.  The bus driver then lets the school board know that the bus will not be running, and the students are notified.

On a week such as this one when final exams are being written, if a student can't make their test due to weather conditions, Choo-Foo says the exam can usually be rescheduled.

Choo-Foo adds that school closures are much more common in the rural areas, due to bus routes being a more popular transportation method.
