With Christmas less than a month away residents are beginning the age-old tradition of searching for the perfect Christmas Tree.

Residents will have to look no farther than The Kiwanis Club of Swift Current, which has stocked up on a variety of trees for their annual sale.

“They're grown in northern Saskatchewan for the most part and they are harvested in the late fall here just a few weeks ago,” explained Kiwanis member Mac Forster. “There is some challenges in the industry right now, so, numbers are a little bit down this year, but we did get a nice number of trees. So, all sizes, mostly Balsam Firs, some Frasers, and that's the primarily the types of trees that we bring in.”

The selection of trees can be found in the Garden Centre at the Pioneer Co-op from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The sale started earlier this week, with Forster adding that many residents have made their way down to select the perfect tree already.

“Sales were pretty brisk,” he stated. “I think people were anxious to come and make sure they were able to get a traditional real tree.”

The annual event serves as a fundraiser for the local club and allows them to be active participants in numerous events in the community.

“Our mandate is to support the youth in the community,” he elaborated.  “We support all sorts of events here, we have bursaries, we have free swim months, we do the Spook-A-Rama. We’re involved with some of the city facilities like the skate park, and one of our newer ones is the youth bicycle park up along Elmwood.

“So, we need some fundraisers to support these ventures. In the summertime we host the golf tournament and then in the fall there's an apple drive. So, at this time of year it's a Christmas tree sale, and it's always been a traditional fundraiser for the club. It's always done quite well in the past and we continue to look forward to other opportunities for fund raising.”

The sale will continue until no stock remains.
