Workers at City Hall in Swift Current now have a new agreement in place

The City of Swift Current and CUPE Local 183 have ratified a new collective bargaining agreement in relatively painless fashion.

It took the two parties less than two days to put a new agreement in place, however despite the quick period of time it took to hammer out the new deal, Chief Administrative Officer for the city Susan Motkaluk says they made sure to cover all bases.

"It's not to say we weren't working on the details and really getting into the discussion. However the discussion was very positive and we were able to find common goals quite quickly," Motkaluk said following last night's City Council meeting.

The two sides first agreed on a new deal in late December, marking the first time they've had a deal before the old contract had expired.

The agreement includes a 3.5 percent wage increase every year over the three year term. It also allows employees the chance to earn more vacation time in fewer years of service.
