Yesterday an announcement was made that this weekend's Swift Current Broncos championship-series playoff games might have a different feel to them.

There will be tailgating and a viewing party, with food and drinks before the game, a showing of the game in the curling rink and an afterparty.

The City of Swift Current is putting it on along with the Swift Current Curling Club and the Broncos, and the announcement was made by Mayor Denis Perrault, Curling Club President Ron Eichel, and Broncos Director of Business Operation Dianne Sletten at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex, where the Broncos play.

The move doesn't come without some things being moved around.

The Redneck Betties cancelled their roller derby bout that was supposed to be held in the curling rink that evening.

"A heartfelt thank you to our Redneck Betties roller derby team who made an 11th-hour change this afternoon in their schedule to accomodate this Saturday event," Perrault said. "We're incredibly fortunate to have such a gracious community partner in the Betties, and our hats off truly to all of them for all their help."

City buses will run between the rink and downtown every 10 minutes until midnight, which is when the afterparty is expected to last until.

Perrault said their next call will be to cab companies to let them know there might be a bump in activity.

Game 1 against the Everett Silvertips is Friday night and Game 2 Saturday night.
