The City of Swift Current has agreed to upgrade some of their servers and the bill won't be as much as anticipated.

Swift Current city council gave the go-ahead Monday night to purchase three Nutanix Multi Node Servers for just shy of $179,000 plus GST, about $10,000 less than budgeted for in the 2019 city capital budget.

Council chose the lowest bid of three off SaskTenders for the servers and will be getting them from Etobicoke's CDW Canada Corp.

The three new servers will replace four servers the City has deemed to have reached the end of their life.

"These three servers are more powerful and are capable of running more applications," Kathy Hopfner, general manager of corporate services with the City of Swift Current, said. "This consolidation will provide efficiencies in maintenance, power usage, and will improve business continuity in the event of a server failure. This means no costly downtime for staff and no disruption to the public using city services."

The other two bids were made by Regina-based companies, Charter Telecom for $213,984.33 and WBM Technologies for $212,703.84.
