The City of Swift Current is celebrating Parks and Recreation Month by proclaiming this week Recreation and Parks Week.

The proclamation was made at city council last night with Community Recreation Coordinator Chris Keleher and Summer Programs Coordinator Erykah Pool.

Keleher said that the celebration of recreation and parks is province-wide.

"Across the province of Saskatchewan recreation enhances the quality of life, active living, lifelong learning," he said. "It helps people live happier and healthier lives, develop skills and positive self-image in children and youth."

Keleher said that they are encouraging the residents in Swift Current to be active outdoors this month.

"Take your kids to the bike safety course and practise safe cycling, put on your bathing suits for some water fun at the Fairview Pool with opening day on June 15," he said. "Our seven spray parks are now open, kayaking in the Swift Current Creek, enjoy a round of golf at our two beautiful courses, enjoy the tennis courts, soccer fields, ball diamonds, and the awesome playgrounds, and join your family and friends for a walk down the Chinook Parkway."

The week was proclaimed from June 2 to June 8.
