It's SaskAbilities Awareness Week in the city of Swift Current.

Last night Swift Current city council made the proclamation for the week to run from September 6-13.

Kimi Duzan, the regional director for SaskAbilities, said last night during the city council meeting that their organization was well-positioned for the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Who would have thought things would be this different, but still this good," she said. "Whether it be accounting or payroll, we have an online planning tool for clients setting their goals, fundraising is online, using Microsoft teams, we felt like we were kind of the cool kids, we got ahead of that a little bit. Here locally we're really pleased with our social media and virtual communications."

She also shared the Swift Current branch has been able to find interactive ways to check out what's happening around the city while keeping everyone safe.

"We took our people and ourselves on tours, we went on 55 virtual tours of the community," she said. "That took us to the local airport, museum, and Frontier Day's. So many more things were possible due to the creativity and passion of our community."

During the SaskAbilities presentation to council it was noted around 4,000 individuals receive some sort of service from the local Swift Current branch yearly and that number continues to grow.

Tomorrow is the last day to donate to the organization's Superhero Bowl: Walk, Wheel, Run!
