Swift Current City RCMP have released the City's crime stats for the first quarter of 2010.

 

Sergeant Pat Laybolt and Staff Sergeant Al MacDonnell made the presentation at last night's City Council meeting.

 

One crime that was on the rise were crimes against persons, which saw an increase from 28 in the first quarter of last year to 39 this year.  Sgt Laybolt says 90% of these were threats, primariliy through text messaging.

 

Thefts over $5000 saw a drop of 50% from four in Q1 2009, to just two in the same time this year.  Drug enforcement charges were down quite a bit from last year, with 17 this year compared to 47 last year.  Injury motor-vehicle accidents were also down from last year, with only two in the first quarter of 2010, compared to seven in Q1 2009.
