Although the totals aren't finalized yet, the Swift Current Salvation Army is extremely pleased with their Christmas campaign results.

This year's goal was to raise $212,000 for the non-profit organization and as of yesterday's count, they'd pulled in over $234,000.

"It's absolutely amazing," said Swift Current Salvation Army Lieutenant Renee Mailman. "We're are thrilled and just so grateful to this community and the surrounding areas. So many people and so many different organizations have just been so absolutely generous and we appreciate it so much."

Last year their Christmas campaign merged with Maple Creek's brought in $228,000 while dishing out just over 300 hampers.

"There were over 325 hampers (this year) and then within that collective there were over 380 children who received gifts," she said. "Just to know that kids could finish off especially such a hard year to be able to make things that much brighter for them is wonderful."

All of the tags on the miracle tree were spoken for and the second annual Toy Day's in early December at Swift Current's Canadian Tire also helped pack the hampers with more toys than normal.

"We were able to even supplement (the hampers) so that kids didn't just get one gift, they got a couple of gifts," she said. "We were able to make a lot of kids have a really special Christmas."

Mailman did add there was a bit of confusion for some recipients due to the Salvation Army running things a bit differently, but that was cleared up early on and beneficiaries were very grateful.
